Sallaum Lines Enhances Fleet Efficiency and Environmental Performance with Jotun’s Advanced Hull Solutions

The Swiss ro-ro ship operator Sallaum Lines has boosted the efforts towards optimizing hull performance and the environmental impact for its fleet with the investment in Jotun’s hull performance solution, HPS, including HullKeeper, for its four Pure Car and Truck Carrier (PCTC) newbuildings in Nanjing Jinling Shipyard.

HPS, in combination with HullKeeper, integrates high performance antifouling coatings with expert technical support during newbuilding and performance analytics based on ISO 19030-2 and intelligent hull condition management programme through HullKeeper.

HullKeeper leverages on a proprietary algorithm to evaluate fouling risk and recommends next course of action. Together, HPS and HullKeeper delivers a comprehensive dock-to-dock hull management solution and contributes to collaboration between all stakeholders to ensure the best possible outcome for Sallaum Lines new PCTC fleet.

Last April, Finnish technology group Wärtsilä was awarded a contract to provide a range of solutions for six liquefied natural gas (LNG) dual-fuel PCTCs invested and built by Sallaum Lines, aiming to minimize carbon footprint and achieve sustainable development. Wärtsilä equipment would be delivered starting in 2024.

Among them, Sallaum Lines signed a contract with China Merchants Jinling Shipbuilding (Jiangsu) Co., Ltd. (Jinling Shipyard) for the construction of 4+2 LNG dual-fuel PCTCs, which are expected to be delivered starting in March 2026. The other two were built by Mawei Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of Fujian Shipbuilding.
