Marine Hydrogen Energy Full Chain and Offshore New Energy Hydrogen Production and Comprehensive Utilization Project Passed CCS’s Review

On January 20, the marine hydrogen production-storage-transmission-use full chain and offshore new energy hydrogen production and comprehensive utilization project jointly developed and demonstrated by Yantai CIMC Raffles Offshore Engineering (CIMC Raffles), China Energy Engineering Group Hydrogen Energy Technology and China Hydrogen Creation Technology (Beijing) passed the drawing conformity review of China Classification Society (CCS), obtaining the drawing conformity certificate issued by CCS, indicating that the integrated design of the project meets industry standards and is qualified for engineering demonstration and application at sea.

The project is based on the transformation of a semi-submersible offshore platform, integrating photovoltaic power generation systems, green electricity hydrogen production facilities, green ammonia synthesis equipment and green methanol synthesis equipment, which will effectively promote the industrial application of marine hydrogen energy technology and become a new engine for the development of the marine economy. The project was officially signed on April 12, 2024, the preliminary design review was completed on August 13, construction started on September 29, and it was successfully hoisted into place on November 24.

It is reported that the CCS reviewed the drawings for compliance in terms of general arrangement, process system, electrical, fire protection and life saving. The successful passing of the review has laid a good foundation for the formal launch of the project’s empirical demonstration, realized the transfer of the hydrogen energy industry from onshore scale to offshore industrialization, and has important demonstration and reference significance in terms of compliance exploration of offshore hydrogen energy projects, opening up of technical routes, research on design standards and specifications, and quality control of hydrogen energy engineering projects in marine environments.

The development of marine hydrogen energy is a necessary way to promote the large-scale development of China’s new offshore energy. CIMC Raffles, together with its partners, will continue to explore and build a replicable, profitable and sustainable innovative development model of offshore hydrogen energy to accelerate the coupling and large-scale development of China’s new offshore energy and hydrogen energy, and to promote the sustainable development of ocean economy and green economy.
