On January 25th, EVER TOP, the container ship equipped with the world’s first full-process carbon capture system developed by Shanghai QiYao Environmental Technology Co., Ltd.(Qiyao Environ Tec) completed the first overseas liquid carbon dioxide (LCO2) offloading work in the Port of Rotterdam in the Netherlands, and a 20-foot standard container full of LCO2 was steadily unloaded through the port crane in the Port of Rotterdam. This is another milestone in the back-end processing of carbon capture technology after QIYO completed the first LCO2 offloading from ship to land in Shanghai Yangshan Port in April 2024, and the first LCO2 offloading from ship to land in Rotterdam.
Prior to this offloading work, Qiyao Environ Tec has fully communicated with the local ports, customs, environmental protection bureaus, classification societies and other relevant authorities in the Netherlands to ensure the first overseas LCO2 offloading work of Qiyao Environ Tec’s Onboard Carbon Capture System (OCCS) is successfully completed.
In January 2024, Qiyao Environ Tec delivered the EVER TOP actual ship project, the world’s first carbon dioxide capture system covering the entire process of absorption, compression, liquefaction and storage. In April 2024, it completed the unloading of LCO2 from the ship end to the land end for the first time at Shanghai Yangshan Port. In October 2024, it completed the world’s first actual CII assessment and deduction operation for a ship carbon capture system.
Together with the successful implementation of LCO2 offloading in Rotterdam Port, it provides a feasible path for the green and low-carbon development of the shipping industry, and is of great significance in promoting the development of the carbon-neutral industry and supporting the greenhouse gas emission reduction strategy decision of the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
