Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Delivers All 15 7000 TEU Dual-Fuel Container Ships to SEASPAN and ZIM

On January 25, the last of the fifteen 7,000 TEU LNG dual-fuel container ships built by New Yangzi Shipbuilding under Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group for SEASPAN and ZIM Integrated Shipping Services, named “ZIM AQUAMARINE,” set sail from the shipyard’s wharf and was delivered to ZIM for operation.

It is understood that the ship was steel cut in late January 2024, was keel laid in mid-July, launched in early November, and a grand naming ceremony was held for the ship by Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group, SEASPAN, and ZIM Integrated Shipping Services on December 10. The ship successfully completed its sea trials on January 14, 2025, with all test results meeting design standards. On January 24, the “ZIM AQUAMARINE” was signed and delivered.

It is worth noting that the delivery and departure of the “ZIM AQUAMARINE” signifies the successful completion of the series of fifteen 7,000 TEU LNG dual-fuel container ships built by New Yangzi Shipbuilding for SEASPAN and ZIM Integrated Shipping Services.

This type of vessel is the first domestically-built mid-sized container ship equipped with Type B LNG fuel tanks and a high-pressure FGSS system. It is designed and constructed to meet increasingly stringent environmental regulations and market demand for clean energy.

This batch of 7,000 TEU LNG dual-fuel container ships has an overall length of 272 meters and a width of 42.8 meters, and is capable of loading 8242 nominal container spaces. Its main engine, generator, and boiler all utilize dual-fuel technology with both oil and natural gas, significantly reducing carbon emissions. Additionally, the ship is equipped with EGR and SCR devices that meet Tier III emission standards, offering better environmental performance and greatly improving energy efficiency.

Meanwhile, the independent construction of B-type LNG fuel tank of the first ship of this series has opened the prelude to the independent production of core equipment for clean energy ships of Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group.

ZIM’s operation of this batch of ships will play an active and important role in reducing carbon emissions and protecting the marine environment, reflecting Star Shipping’s foresight in the direction of clean energy in the shipping market. This project will enable Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Industry to take a solid step forward on the road of green shipping together with Sisban and Star Shipping, and contribute to the sustainable development of the global shipping industry.
