On January 22, Huarun Dadong Dockyard Co., Ltd. (HRDD) held a steel cutting ceremony for a 22,000 Mton lift capacity floating dry dock.
In November 2024, HRDD signed a contract with Spain’s Tenerife Shipyards for the construction of a Panamax floating dock with a lifting capacity of 22,000 tons. After nearly two months of preparation, the project has finally commenced. According to the plan, the floating dock is expected to be fully assembled by August 2025, launched in October, and delivered in February 2026.
The floating dock measures 240 meters in length, 48 meters in width, and has a pontoon height of 4.7 meters. It will be classed by Lloyd’s Register (LR), with a contract duration of 15 months.
The signing of this floating dock contract marked the beginning of HRDD’s collaboration with the Spanish company. At the time, the Spanish Consul General in Shanghai, Luis Calvo, stated, “The implementation of this floating dock project is a substantial demonstration of the closer strategic partnership between our two countries following Spanish Prime Minister Sanchez’s significant visit to China in September.”
It is understood that HRDD has completed the construction of 5 large floating docks and retrofitted 3. Five years ago, HRDD built a 22,000-ton floating dock for Cuba’s CDC Shipyard. Currently, the production and operation situation is good, and it has successfully completed many ship repair and conversion projects.
