Sun Enterprises places order for two 158,000 dwt tankers at DH Shipbuilding

South Korea’s DH Shipbuilding (formerly Daehan Shipbuilding) has secured an order for two 158,000 dwt Suezmax tankers from Greek shipping company Sun Enterprises for a total order price of 250 billion won ($180 million), according to TradeWinds on January 22nd.

The new vessel will be dual-fueled with liquefied natural gas (LNG) and equipped with scrubbers. Delivery is expected in the first quarter of 2027.

This is the second time DH Shipbuilding has received a construction order from Sun Enterprise after six years. Previously in 2019, DH Shipbuilding received an order for three 115,000 dwt Aframax tankers from the shipping company.

Sun Enterprise’s order is based on a strong investment in fleet capacity expansion. The company plans to maintain its competitive edge in the industry with its first Suezmax tanker order in a decade.

Sun Enterprise started as a tanker management company in 1878 and since 1948 has signed more than 110 construction contracts with shipbuilders around the world. Today, the company owns two Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCCs), three Suezmax tankers, three Aframax tankers, four Supra-Panamax tankers, four product tankers and seven bulk carriers.

DH Shipbuilding mainly builds medium-sized vessels such as Capesize bulkers, Newcastle bulkers, Aframax tankers and product tankers. The company currently holds orders for 24 newbuild tankers, including 5 Aframax tankers and 19 Suezmax tankers.

DH Shipbuilding completed its first reorganization in 13 years in 2022 and launched an initial public offering (IPO) in 2023 after successfully turning a profit. DH Shipbuilding is now consolidating its position as a global leader in medium-to-large-sized tankers and accelerating the IPO process on the back of its strong performance.
