On January 17th, Chengxi Shipyard, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), successfully delivered 4 sets of 35-meter folding marine rotor sails for Anemoi Marine Technologies. Up to now, CSSC Chengxi Shipyard has delivered 21 sets of marine rotor sails, which further establishes the leading position of CSSC Chengxi Shipyard in the field of marine rotor sail construction.
It is reported that the four sets of items delivered are the third batch of folding marine rotor sails tailor-made for Anemoi, which will be installed on a 388,000 DWT Valemax ore carrier. According to Anemoi’s estimation, the rotor sail project is expected to achieve an annual energy saving effect of 10.7%, which is equivalent to a reduction of 1,200-1,500 tons of fuel oil use and 6,000 tons of carbon dioxide emission, with significant energy saving and emission reduction effect.
The four sets of 35-meter foldable marine rotor sails are composed of fiberglass cylinders, steel masts, and bases. They feature an advanced hydraulic folding and automatic adjustment system.
The overall height of the product reaches 38 meters, with an outer cylinder diameter of 5 meters and a top disc diameter of 10 meters, and a total weight of 135 tons. The maximum design rotational speed is 200 rotations per minute. There are four hydraulic cylinders under the base, which can be used to tilt the cylinder structure, with a tilting angle close to horizontal, reaching up to 89 degrees. This allows the sails to lower from the vertical direction, reducing their impact on airflow and cargo handling operations.
Currently, CSSC Chengxi Shipyard has achieved full coverage of mainstream market types, construction capabilities, and technologies for fixed, mobile, and foldable rotor sails, which has laid a solid foundation for the continuous promotion of industrial transformation and upgrading, as well as for enhancing the company’s core competitiveness.
