On January 19th, WINNING SIMANDOU 1, a brand new Floating Tender Unit (FTU) led by Winning Group and participated by Shandong Baowu Steel Group, was formally delivered at Nantong Tongmao Shipyard.
It is reported that on November 8, 2023, Winning Group and Nantong Tongmao Shipyard signed an agreement for the construction of an offshore floating transfer platform (FTU) in Singapore.
The FTU is approximately 110 meters long, 30 meters wide, 7 meters deep and has a design draft of 3.5 meters. The platform can be used for offshore transshipment of iron ore and bauxite, and will be deployed to the offshore barge operation site in Guinea, West Africa upon completion.
The Simandou project is the most important iron ore project invested and constructed overseas by Shandong Baowu Steel Group, and will significantly impact the resilience and security level of China’s iron ore industry supply chain. Currently, various logistics infrastructure constructions for the Simandou project are progressing rapidly. The transshipment system is a crucial link in opening the Simandou iron ore transportation channel, achieving seamless connection from ore mining, railway transportation, and port transit to maritime transportation.
The floating transshipment platform “WINNING SIMANDOU 1” is the first floating transshipment platform in the Winning fleet to be named after “Simandou.” Its early and successful delivery is not only due to the concerted efforts and tireless work of Nantong Tongmao Shipyard and the Winning project team, but it also marks a further deepening of cooperation between Winning Group and Shandong Baowu Steel Group. The comprehensive collaboration between these two industry giants in shipping logistics and the steel industry supply chain has laid a solid foundation for the completion of the Simandou project and the commencement of ore extraction this year.
