MERCURIUS signed a contract with New Jiangzhou Shipbuilding Heavy Industry for a high-end chemical tanker

Recently, Chinese shipbuilder Jiangxi New Jiangzhou Shipbuilding Heavy Industry successfully signed a contract for the 2# 135-meter duplex stainless steel chemical tanker with the Dutch shipowner MERCURIUS SHIPBUILDING B.V. This signing is the first new ship order of New Jiangzhou Shipbuilding Heavy Industry in 2025.

As previously reported, in March 2024, New Jiangzhou Shipbuilding Heavy Industry and MERCURIUS signed a contract for four 135-meter duplex stainless steel chemical tankers, marking the company’s return to the European high-end chemical tanker market.

Classed by Lloyd’s Register (LR), the vessel is a special vessel with high technological content, high value-added and broad market prospect. It can meet the special requirements of corrosion-resistant and high-strength cargo hold materials, and the liquid cargoes it carries are various, including chemicals and petrochemical products.

MERCURIUS, as a Dutch family-owned company established in 1983, has a significant influence in the logistics field of European inland waterways, and has especially invested intensively in stainless steel chemical tankers. The renewed cooperation with New Jiangzhou Shipbuilding Heavy Industry fully reflects the high recognition of MERCURIUS on New Jiangzhou Shipbuilding Heavy Industry’s shipbuilding quality and delivery guarantee.

New Jiangzhou Shipbuilding Heavy Industry’s main businesses include steel ship manufacturing for both civil and public service ship type, as well as bridge steel structure manufacturing, ship repair etc. The Company is totally qualified for taking in orders of construction of vessels, it owns the qualification type of Class I Category II for shipbuilding & Class I and Category Ill for ship repair, as well as CCS management system. In possession of a lake side outfitting wharf in length of 750meter, a in-lake-pier in length of 400meter, plus an outfitting wharf in length of 360m at Yangtze river line.

The Company covers an area of approximately 1,560 acres, with one unit of 6,720㎡ indoor slipway in size of 168m x 36m with lifting height 25.8m and two units of outdoor slipways each representing 14625㎡ in size of 250m x 37m and 10868㎡in size of 250m x 37m respectively, with lifting height 40m.
