CCCC Guangzhou Waterway Bureau christened a 35,000 m³ giant trailing suction hopper dredger

CCCC Guangzhou Waterway Bureau christened the 35,000 m3 giant trailing suction hopper dredger “Jun guang”.

“Jun Guang” has a total design length of 198 meters, a beam of 38.5 meters, a full load draft of 13.5 meters, and a maximum mud tank capacity of 35,000 cubic meters. It is the first of its kind in China and the largest trailing suction hopper dredger in Asia. It is a “national heavy weapon” in the field of large-scale marine engineering that fully reflects China’s independent innovation scientific and technological strength.

The vessel has four major characteristics of “intelligence, high efficiency, versatility and environmental protection”, as well as the world’s top performance of “strong breaking, deep excavation, long transport distance and long blowing distance”. It meets the needs of the marine market to go deep and far, and is widely used in port dredging, deep sea sand extraction, land reclamation, deep sea mining, trench excavation and backfilling, gravel bed and deep sea pipeline laying and other construction scenes.

Currently, the vessel is under construction by Shanghai Zhenhua Port Machinery (ZPMC). On January 19, 2024, representatives of ZPMC, CCCC Guangzhou Waterway Bureau and CCCC Dredging Technology Research Center made a signing of the contract for the construction of 35,000 m³ trailing suction hopper dredger. At the same time, representatives from CCCC Guangzhou Navigation Bureau and China Development Bank Guangdong Branch signed a framework agreement on the intention to cooperate on the financing of the dredger.

After the completion of “Jun Guang”, it will fill the blank of China’s super-large trailing suction hopper dredger above 30,000 m³, and rank among the flagship dredgers in the world dredging industry, which will strongly push the overall strength and international competitiveness of China’s dredging industry to a new height, and inject power into the in-depth practice of the construction of a strong oceanic country.
