Hengli Heavy Industry’s ‘Future Factory’ Commences Operation, Ushering in a New Era of High-Quality Development

On January 15, the commissioning ceremony of Hengli Heavy Industry’s “Future Factory” was held in Changxing Island, Dalian, marking the ushering in of a new stage of high-quality development of Hengli Heavy Industry.

On August 15 last year, Hengli Heavy Industry’s “Future Factory” started construction. Just five months later, this site of nearly 6 square kilometers was put into production.

The first and second phases of Hengli Heavy Industries have been named “Ocean Factory” and “Future Factory,” respectively. These names reflect Hengli Heavy Industries’ vision of strengthening its maritime capabilities and pursuing the dream of becoming a maritime and manufacturing powerhouse. The two factories are connected by land and sea, with an integrated and seamless development of the industrial chain.

The “Future Factory” focuses on the manufacturing of high value-added green ships and high-end offshore equipment, such as ultra-large oil tankers, ultra-large liquefied gas carriers, ultra-large container ships, offshore floating production and storage tankers, offshore floating wind power, drilling platforms, etc. After the full production, Hengli Heavy Industry can realize an annual processing of 2.3 million tons of steel, and an annual production of 180 engines.

Recently, the General Office of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) issued the “Notice on Issuing the Typical Cases of Activating Existing Assets and Expanding Effective Investment (Second Batch),” promoting 25 typical cases nationwide. Among them, Hengli Heavy Industry revitalizing the former STX (Dalian) assets was included, making it the only case selected from the Northeast region.

Hengli Heavy Industry not only revitalizes the stock of assets in a short time, but also bases on the long-term development and growth. In the second year of its full operation, Hengli Heavy Industry has achieved several major milestones, including the early delivery of its first constructed vessel, the successful delivery of its first engine, the launch of its first 306,000 DWT ultra-large crude carrier, and the commencement of construction on various other ultra-large vessels.

With the commissioning of the “Future Factory,” Hengli Heavy Industry has strengthened its foundation for creating a first-class, modern, intelligent, and green shipbuilding and marine engineering equipment manufacturing base, and its progress is now more resolute than ever.
