On January 14, Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Changxingdao Shipyard (DSICCX), a subsidiary of China Shipbuilding Industry Company limited (CSIC) under China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), officially completed and delivered the first domestic FSO project entering the Thai market for Thailand’s Truth Maritime Services Company Limited.
It is understood that G1FSO is an FSO project converted from an Aframax tanker built in 2005, which does not require docking within 10 years after the conversion is completed. Classed by ABS, the FSO serves the Preah Vihear Cave oil field in the Gulf of Thailand and the end customer is the PTT Exploration and Production Public Company Limited (PTTEP).
The project was a complex systems project involving extensive structural modifications, pipe laying, cable laying, equipment installation, life extension and refurbishment, and special coating operations. The modifications included nearly 7,000 meters of new piping for 26 systems, over 40,000 meters of cable laying, 48 pieces of equipment and 34 subsections. Newly added equipment such as metering skid blocks, boilers, cranes, laboratories, lifeboats and boat racks.
Repairs include main and auxiliary engines, cargo oil pumps, boilers, pumps, motors, heat exchangers, deck machinery and other types of equipment repairs, as well as navigation and communication automation system overhaul, pipe replacement of about 2 kilometers, valve repair of more than 700, and structural and outfitting replacement of a few hundred tons, hull and deck outfitting and living area coating refurbishment of 30,000 square meters, and so on.
In recent years, DSICCX has continued to plough into the field of FPSO and FSO conversion, strengthened technology research and development and product innovation, and realized the technological leap of FPSO project turnkey from hull structure repair and conversion to modules construction and whole ship integration.
The successful delivery of G1FSO project has once again verified DSICCX’s production and technical strength in this field and laid a solid foundation for the company in offshore repair and conversion.
