Recently, Qiongzhou Strait new energy automobile sea transportation special vessel “Luyuan No. 2” successfully completed the maiden voyage, adding an important new capacity for the Qiongzhou Strait Spring Festival cross-sea transportation.
“Luyuan No. 2” is 129.8 meters long, 28 meters wide, and has a gross tonnage of 7,404 tons. After major reconstruction, the vessel was put into service on the route from Zhanjiang Hai’an New Port to Haikou Xiuying Port. It is a deck cargo vessel specially used to carry new energy vehicles across the sea, with a designed maximum full-load capacity about 190 vehicles per voyage.
Previously, its sister vessel “Luyuan No. 1” completed its maiden voyage on December 29, 2024. The vessel has a gross tonnage of 6,731 tons, a length of 125.8 meters, a width of 28 meters, and a single-deck design. The maximum designed full-load capacity is about 180 vehicles per voyage. The vessel is also put into service on the route from Zhanjiang Hai’an New Port to Haikou Xiuying Port.
After the two special vessels were put into operation, they will add a new mode of sea transportation for new energy vehicles in the Qiongzhou Strait, effectively easing the tense situation of insufficient capacity for new energy vehicles to cross the sea during the peak period of cross-sea vehicle transportation in the Qiongzhou Strait.
According to the planned arrangement, during the Spring Festival, both sides of the Qiongzhou Strait will arrange at least 20 new energy dedicated flights every day, and according to the waiting situation, additional flights will be opened in due course, and at least 3,500 new energy vehicles can be guaranteed to enter and exit the island.
The commissioning of “Luyuan No. 1″ and “Luyuan No. 2″ marks the third upgrade and iteration of the new energy vehicle cross-sea transportation mode in the Qiongzhou Strait.
Prior to this, the Haikou Maritime Bureau and Hainan Strait Shipping continued to carry out research on new energy vehicles across the sea transportation mode, put forward a variety of modes, and to carry out theoretical rehearsals and practical verification.
They have completed the upgrade and innovation from “mixed transportation of new energy vehicles and fuel vehicles” in 2022 to “opening of new energy special team” and then to “putting special ships into use”, and continue to seek win-win results between risk control, transportation efficiency, social benefits and corporate economic benefits.
