Settlement reached in a sexual harassment case on a container ship

APL Maritime, the U.S. subsidiary of French liner giant CMA CGM, has settled a sexual harassment lawsuit filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.

In the lawsuit, a married couple seeks compensation for sexual harassment suffered by their husband in the workplace. The man, identified as Quentin Brown, was sexually harassed while working as an employee of APL Maritime aboard the Benjamin Franklin container ship, which was built in 2015.

The settlement between CMA CGM’s, APL Maritime and the couple was reportedly reached confidentially, and the amount of the settlement was not disclosed.

Quentin Brown and his wife, Fahmi Rahmani, initially sued CMA CGM and APL Maritime in U.S. court on September 25, 2024.At the time, CMA CGM stated that sexual harassment on board ships would not be tolerated.

This is the second sexual harassment lawsuit facing CMA CGM’s Maritime in the same month. Another sailor has accused CMA CGM’s of failing to address violence and sexual harassment by a former chief engineer on the APL Gulf Express, which was built in 2002.
