On January 10, 2025, the 91st meeting of SPCC was successfully held in Xiamen, which was co-chaired by Li Zhengjian, Executive Chairman of SPCC, and Li Kai, the 91st rotating chairman of SPCC and Deputy General Manager of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding.
SPCC disclosed that the total ship repair volume of its members crosses RMB 40 billion; the top ten ship repair yards in the world, are all in China; the total dock capacity of the 100 ship repair docks exceeded 17 million tons; Zhoushan City accounts for 42.5% of the output value and 38.6% of the number of ships; the Yangtze River Delta accounts for more than 60% of the country; the number of completed ships accounts for more than 60% of the world; water-drawing in green ship repair accounts for 51.7%; among the 25 main factories, more than a quarter are green factories; among the major non-state-owned shipyards, high-tech enterprises account for 20%.
Summarizing the records of 19 major Chinese ship repair companies in 2024, the total output value of ship repair reached RMB 40.059 billion, an increase of 8.78% year-on-year; 6,319 ships were completed and shipped, an increase of 6.56% year-on-year. In terms of the number of completed ships, Changhong International, Zhoushan Xinya Shipyard, Zhoushan Huafeng, Shanghai Heavy Industry, Huarun Dadong Dockyard (HRDD), Fujian Huadong Shipysrd, Yiu Lian Dockyards (Shekou), Nanyang Zhongtian, Dalian Heavy Industry and Zhoushan Heavy Industry became the top 10 ship repair companies in China, and also the top 10 ship repair companies in the world.
It is worth mentioning that the foreign Top 10 ship repair yard is 221 ships, which is only located in the fifteenth place of China’s ship repair. According to the total number of completed ships, China’s Top 10 (3,400 ships) is 2.1 times more than overseas Top 10 (1,610 ships). Among them, COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry (Shanghai) even ranked the top position of single yard with a total of more than 360 ships.
The meeting reviewed and approved the “Ten-Year Vision for Building a Ship Repair Power”, and will strive for “global ship repair pricing power” to push China’s ship repair prices to the level that a world ship repair power deserves.
The conference reviewed and approved the proposal of China Ship Repair Index. The proposal pointed out that it is of great significance to restart the compilation of the ship repair index and accelerate its pace under the opportunity of the rapid development of big data and AI technology.
