On January 8, the fourth methanol dual-fuel feeder container ship Eco Tramontane built by New Dayang Shipyard, a subsidiary of Sumec marine, was formally delivered, marking the successful completion of the world’s first batch of four methanol dual-fuel feeder container ships project built by Sumec marine in cooperation with Singapore’s X-press Company.
It is reported that the methanol dual-fuel feeder container ships adopt the latest ship design concepts and are among the most energy-efficient ships of their size. The ships’ main engines are capable of running on both conventional fuel oil and methanol, and fuel consumption is reduced by about 50 percent when using methanol fuel to transport a container one mile compared to conventional fuel. The use of methanol fuel, which is produced from captured carbon dioxide and green hydrogen combined with renewable electricity, will further reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
