On January 6, Jiangsu Suhao Chuangke Shipbuilding officially kicked off construction of a 63,500 DWT Ultramax bulk carrier for Jiangsu Ocean Shipping. This is also the first time that Sainty Shipbuilding (Yangzhou) has publicly reported the start of construction of a new vessel after the company officially changed its name to Jiangsu Suhao Chuangke Shipbuilding.
The vessel has a length of 199.90 meters, a breadth of 32.26 meters, a depth of 18.90 meters and a full load speed of 13.4 knots. The vessel is planned to be launched at the end of September this year and delivered at the end of November. According to the plan, Jiangsu Suhao Chuangke Shipbuilding will start the construction of three Ultramax bulk carriers of the same type this year.
In recent years, Jiangsu Ocean Shipping has continued to build its own strategic marine fleet, focusing on the structural upgrading of its bulk carrier fleet, accelerating the development of large-scale, green and specialized bulk carriers, and optimizing and enhancing its capacity by flexibly adopting the “lease-buy-construct” method, signing a construction agreement for six bulk carriers in 2024, and signing an agreement on the bareboat charter of six bulk carriers.
Jiangsu Suhao Chuangke Shipbuilding Formerly known as Sainty Shipbuilding (Yangzhou), Suntian Shipbuilding was originally a subsidiary of Jiangsu Sainty Shipbuilding was originally a third-tier company of Jiangsu Guoxin Investment Group. which was restructured from Jiangsu Sainty Shipbuilding, established in 2003. In 2016, it became China’s first listed shipbuilding company to go bankrupt due to bankruptcy and reorganization in the wake of severe losses, and then Jiangsu Guoxin Investment Group rescued Sunshine Shipbuilding, which was facing delisting, with a capital injection in exchange for shares.
In March 2017, Sainty Shipbuilding (Yangzhou) was renamed Jiangsu Guoxin Co., Ltd. and announced its “withdrawing from the shipbuilding industry”. In January 2020, Sainty Assets Management delivered its first new ship since its establishment. In 2024, Sainty Machinery, Sainty Minmetals and Sainty Assets of angsu Soho Holdings Group completed the merger and reorganization and were renamed as Soho Chuangke Group, and Yangzhou Sunshine Shipbuilding restarted its shipbiliding business.
Sainty Shipbuilding (Yangzhou) has received a number of new orders after its successful reorganization.
In July 2024, Jiangsu Suhao Chuangke Shipbuilding announced that in the past two months, Sainty Shipbuilding (Yangzhou) has signed a total of 10 63,500 DWT bulk carrier construction contracts with domestic and foreign shipowners such as Sea Traders, China Development Bank Financial Leasing (CDB Leasing), and Jiangsu Ocean Shipping, with a contract value of approximately RMB 2.3 billion. In the same month, Jiangsu Ocean Shipping teamed up with Guoyin Financial Leasing to place an order for another 8 64,000 DWT bulk carriers at Sainty Shipbuilding, with a contract value expected to exceed US$260 million.
Public data shows that on November 8, 2024, Sainty Shipbuilding (Yangzhou) was officially renamed Jiangsu Suhao Chuangke Shipbuilding and completed the change of industrial and commercial information. Sainty Shipbuilding (Yangzhou) has thus become a thing of the past.
