Oshima Shipbuilding has won an order for two 64,000 dwt Ultramax bulk carriers from South Korean shipping company Pan Ocean for scheduled delivery in 2026, according to Clarksons data.
In addition, Oshima Shipbuilding also signed a contract with Greek shipping company Alassia Newships for the construction of two 64,000 dwt Ultramax bulk carriers and one 82,000 dwt Kamsarmax bulk carrier. The two Ultramax bulk carriers are scheduled to be delivered in the fourth quarter of 2024 and the Kamsarmax bulk carrier is scheduled to be delivered in 2025.
The value of any of these orders has not been released.
According to incomplete statistics, Oshima Shipbuilding also signed a 42,300 dwt handysize bulk carrier construction contract with Greek shipping company Meadway Shipping & Trading last month. Also, Greek shipping company Latsco Shipping ordered three 64,000 dwt bulk carriers from Oshima Shipbuilding, which is the first time Latsco has placed an order for shipbuilding with a Japanese shipyard since its establishment.
With a record order book, Oshima Shipbuilding has taken over Mitsubishi Heavy Industries’Nagasaki Shipyard & Machinery Works and started building its first bulk carrier there in April. Based on the latest statistics from Clarkson, Oshima Shipbuilding has surpassed Imabari Shipbuilding to become Japan’s shipyard with the largest number of orders in hand, ranking 22nd globally.
