Jiangnan Shipbuilding Delivered “MSC CHINA” One Month Ahead of Schedule

On October 9, Jiangnan Shipbuilding (Group) Co., Ltd, a subsidiary of CSSC, delivered the world’s largest 24,000 TEU-class ultra-large container ship “MSC CHINA” one month ahead of schedule, which was constructed for CSSC (Hong Kong) Shipping Company Limited and the MSC.

The vessel is designed by Hudong-Zhonghua and classed by DNV, with an overall length of 399.99 meters, a beam of 61.5 meters, a depth of 33.2 meters, a deck area close to 4 standard soccer fields, a maximum number of stacking floors of up to 25 floors, which is equivalent to the height of 22-storey building, and a capacity of 24,116 containers, which is currently the largest class of container vessels in the world in terms of loading volume, and is called “Super King of Cargo Carriers” on the sea.

The vessel is equipped with a hybrid Scrubber desulfurization device, as well as the unique small bulbous bow, large diameter propeller and energy-saving conduit. Meanwhile, the bubble drag reduction system is adopted for the first time, which not only effectively reduces the total energy consumption of the ship, but also reduces the carbon emission of the corresponding total amount by 3%-4%, which can be reduced by more than 6,000 tons per year. Adopting the axle generator system, the ship can effectively reduce fuel consumption, optimize fuel consumption and ship energy efficiency design index (EEDI), and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Jiangnan Shipbuilding always adheres to the construction concept of “one ship is better than the other”, meets the reasonable demands of shipowners as much as possible, and ensures the continuous improvement of quality. Through reasonable arrangement of production resources, continuous optimization of process and logic, full coverage of former ship’s opinions and change orders as well as intensive inspection, Jiangnan Shipbuilding completed power generation motor vehicle in 15 days after docking on June 26th, completed aerial test in 1 month, completed sea trial and returned to the factory in 2 months, and delivered the ship smoothly in 3 months, which set a new benchmark for the construction of subsequent ships.

“To meet our demand, the ship was delivered one month earlier than the original plan. During the process, Jiangnan Shipbuilding gave full understanding and full cooperation, which made us deeply realize the speed and quality of Jiangnan Shipbuilding.” The representative of the ship owner praised.

According to statistics, presently the two Shanghai shipbuilding enterprises, Jiangnan Shipbuilding and Hudong-Zhonghua, under CSSC, have delivered 13 of the world’s largest 24,000 TEU class ultra-large container ships, of which 8 are customized for MSC. Therefore, Shanghai has become a global R&D and construction center for ultra-large container ships, and MSC has become an important strategic partner of China State Shipbuilding Corporation.
