Greek shipping company Safe Bulkers has ordered two 81,200 DWT methanol dual-fuel Kamsarmax bulk carriers from Zhoushan Tsuneishi Shipbuilding, scheduled for delivery in the fourth quarter of 2026 and the first quarter of 2027, according to Lloyd’s List.
Safe Bulkers has previously focused on ordering fuel-efficient newbuildings from Japanese shipyards, and this order is the owner’s first for methanol dual-fuel newbuildings. The total value of the order has not been announced currently, and Safe Bulkers only stated that it has placed an order for two newbuildings “at an attractive price”. However, sources said that the cost of a single vessel is about $45 million, with a total value of about $90 million.
Previously, Zhoushan Tsuneishi Shipbuilding also signed a letter of intent for the construction of two 81,200 DWT methanol dual-fuel Kamsarmaxes bulk carriers with Greek bulk carrier owner Diana Shipping at the end of September.
