CNOOC’s specialized pipe-laying vessel construction project was officially approved

Recently, the construction project of a professional pipe-laying vessel of the COOEC’s branch, Offshore Oil Engineering Installation Branch (hereinafter referred to as the “Installation Branch”) was approved, which is of great significance to further enhance the company’s own equipment resource guarantee and market competitiveness.

Previously on December 20, COOEC released “Announcement on Foreign Investment in Newly Built Professional Pipe-laying Vessel”. Installation Branch, a branch of the company, intends to build a specialized pipe-laying vessel, with total project investment estimated at RMB 1.375 billion (about $188 million including VAT). The entire investment in the project is COOEC’s own funds and the vessel is scheduled to be delivered and put into use in June 2028.

It is understood that the vessel is about 174 meters long and 38 meters wide, equipped with 8 thrusters, including 2 4500kW full-rotation thrusters, 4 2400kW retractable thrusters, 2 2000kW side thrusters and 1 main crane with a maximum lifting capacity of 300 tons. Meanwhile, it has DP3-dynamic positioning capability and single and double node submarine pipeline laying operation and maintenance, etc. with good construction operation and ship positioning capability.

It is reported that the construction of this professional pipe-laying vessel will inject new impetus for the renewal of COOEC’s old equipment, further promote the internationalization of marine major equipment, and enhance China’s submarine pipeline laying service capacity. After the vessel is put into operation, it will break through the bottleneck of the company’s oil and gas field development, create a deep and shallow water operation fleet with international competitiveness and economy, and provide a solid equipment guarantee for the development of China’s offshore oil and gas resources.
