According to the Shanghai Ship Research and Design Institute (SDARI), the S-CUBE containerized power battery unit and supporting power system independently developed by the institute have been successfully applied to the conversion project of China Oilfield Services Limited (COSL)’s 4,000-horsepower LNG-powered guard supply vessel “Haiyang Shiyou 545”.
It is understood that S-CUBE adopts lithium iron phosphate batteries with a rated capacity of 1,567kWh and a cycle life of more than 5,000 times, which can provide main power and propulsion power for the vessel. After installing S-CUBE, the target vessel can be comprehensively improved in terms of economy, maneuverability, safety and environmental protection.
As a power reserve, the system can be charged through the main generator or by shore power, which is convenient and fast. The system is expected to reduce comprehensive carbon emissions by more than 10% under various operating conditions such as when the vessel is berthing at a platform, on patrol or at anchor, reduce the operating time of the main diesel generator set by about 40%, and increase the sudden load-adding and unloading capacity of the electric propulsion system by about 50%, thereby achieving energy conservation and emission reduction. Under certain working conditions, the system can also be operated in purely electric mode, realizing “zero emission”; by installing a lithium battery storage system. The vessel has obtained the CCS Hybrid Battery (Power-h) additional notation.
As the first box-type power supply equipment to obtain the China Classification Society (CCS) marine product certificate, the S-CUBE, with its universal and standardized design concept, high system energy density, safe and reliable system design, and efficient and economical operating mode, has expanded the application scenarios of battery technology in the shipping and offshore engineering fields.
