On December 20, COSCO Shipping Bulk signed a contract with COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry (Yangzhou) for three 210,000 dwt methanol and ammonia-ready bulk carriers, with an option for five more vessels of the same type.
The series of vessels will be delivered and put into operation from August 2027 to November 2028.
This is another batch of new energy vessels constructed for COSCO Shipping Bulk after signing a contract for the construction of two 325K methanol dual-fuel powered ore carriers in December last year.
The bulk carrier is about 300 meters long, 25.2 meters deep and has a structural draft of 18.50 meters. It combines advanced design concepts with cutting-edge energy application technologies, making it an “energy-saving, economical, efficient, and environmentally friendly” Newcastle-type bulk carrier.
The ship’s main engine is designed for both methanol dual-fuel and ammonia dual-fuel retrofit, and the Nox emission meets the Tier III standard, which can easily adapt to the future fuel trend.
Meanwhile, after the vessel is converted to a methanol or ammonia fuel power system, all fuel tanks can still be used normally. In actual operation, the proportion of new energy fuels can be adjusted according to the CII rating to achieve the optimal fuel cost while meeting emission requirements.
In order to further improve the vessel’s energy efficiency level, the vessel is also equipped with conventional hydrodynamic energy-saving devices such as front guide wheels and vortex elimination fins, as well as shaft generators, and an open desulfurization tower is installed to achieve all-round energy saving and efficiency reduction.
