On December 18, the “MSC OLBIA,” the third LNG dual-fuel 16,000 TEU container ship built by Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group’s Yangzi Xinfu Shipbuilding for the owner Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), departured from the shipyard’s quay and was delivered to the owner for operation.
It is understood that there are 12 vessels in this series, with a total length of about 366 meters, a length between two columns of 355.4 meters, a beam of 51 meters, and a structural draft of 17 meters. This type of vessel is equipped with energy-saving devices such as shaft generators, air lubrication, rudder balls and twisted wings. The dual-fuel main engine uses the ECOEGR optimization method, which can further effectively reduce fuel consumption while meeting Tier III emission standards.
The vessel entered construction in mid-September 2023, keel laid in mid-March 2024, launched in mid-August, and successfully completed the sea trial in early December, with all test results meeting the design standards.
On December 16, in the presence of representatives from both parties, Mr. CH Giuseppe Gargiulo, the China Regional Manager for New Buildings of MSC, and Mr. Liu Yinjun, the Deputy General Manager of Yangzi Xinfu Shipbuilding, signed the delivery documents on behalf of their respective organizations.
