55,000-ton Self-Propelled Deck Vessel Begins Sea Trials

Between December 16 and 17, “Fan Zhou 8,” currently the world’s largest self-propelled deck vessel by carrying capacity, successfully departed the port and headed for sea trials in the waters east of Shanghai. On the evening of the 17th, the “Fan Zhou 8” arrived at the trial area and is currently undergoing various professional tests.

The 55,000-ton deck vessel was built by Taizhou Zhonghang Shipbuilding for Jiangsu Fanzhou Shipping Co., Ltd.

“Fanzhou 8” has a total length of 256 meters and a beam of 51 meters with a maximum load capacity of 58,405.4 tons, a cruising range of up to 16,000 nautical miles, and a maximum speed of over 15 knots (about 27.78 kilometers per hour).

The vessel boasts strong seaworthiness and meets polar regulations, allowing it to navigate through small drifting ice regions. It is applying for the G-ECO and G-EP green ecological and environmentally friendly ship class notations from the classification society. The vessel incorporates a series of safety, energy-saving, and environmental protection technologies, making it the world’s largest self-propelled deck vessel with the largest carrying capacity and the most powerful comprehensive functions.

The vessel has a wide range of applications, including transporting offshore oilfield jackets and platform modules, large vessel steel structures and sections, nuclear power equipment, integrated modules of mining machinery, port equipment, large sets of chemical equipment, and offshore wind power equipment. It is also capable of transporting packaged hazardous materials required for offshore oil platform production.
