Greece’s Athenian Sea Carriers is making a big push into the chemical tanker segment, doubling its existing orders at a Chinese yard.
According to Trade Winds News, Athenian Sea Carriers has returned to Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Group with a repeat order for 18,500 DWT chemical carriers. This brings the total number of chemical tankers it has ordered at the state-owned yard to eight.
The four additional new vessels on order are scheduled for delivery in 2026 and will cost around US$30 million each, roughly the same price as the first four.
At the beginning of this year, Athenian Sea Carriers began to promote diversification of its operations, and on March 17 officially signed a construction contract with Wuchang Shipbuilding for the first batch of four new vessels, which are expected to be delivered for operation in 2025.
