Petrobras signs $2.8 billion deal for 12 PSVs

Petrobras has confirmed the award of 12 newbuild platform supply vessels (PSVs) to two shipping companies for a total of BRL16.5 bn ($2.7bn).

The two shipowners, Bram Offshore and Starnav Servicos Maritimos, will each be contracted to build and deliver six PSVs. Of the total value of the contracts, about BRL5.2 billion (about $6.26bn) is earmarked for investment in shipbuilding projects in Brazil.

Bram Offshore will build six PSVs at Navship Shipyard, while Starnav Servicos Maritimos has chosen Detroit Shipyard. Both shipyards are located in the southern Brazilian state of Santa Catarina.

These PSVs are expected to be operational by 2028, with a contract period of 12 years and a mobilization period of up to four years. During the construction phase, the localization ratio is set at 40%.

“These new units will not only incorporate the latest technology, but also represent our commitment to sustainable and innovative practices,” said Petrobras Chief Executive Magda Chambriard. “These are projects that meet the highest environmental, social, and governance standards, essential for a sustainable future, in addition to generating around 11,000 direct and indirect jobs.”

The PSVs will be equipped with a hybrid propulsion system that combines an electric engine and battery with a diesel or biodiesel generator, in line with Petrobras’ commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

In addition to the 12 PSVs, Petrobras will charter up to 10 newbuild oil spill response vessels (OSRVs) and will launch a tender for eight newbuild underwater Remotely Support Vessels (RSVs) in January next year.
