Singapore’s East Pacific Shipping (EPS) has placed an order for five Newcastle bulk carriers with Nihon Shipyard, according to Trade Winds.
The specification of the vessel is 211,000 dwt. The shipbuilding contract was signed earlier this year but was never reported, sources said.
Including the five latest orders, the total number of Newcastle bulk carriers ordered by EPS from Nihon Shipyard reaches seven. The previous two were ordered last year.
Japan Marine United (JMU) will be responsible for the construction of the seven vessels, with the first three expected to be delivered in 2025 and the last four scheduled to follow between 2026 and 2028.
The new vessels are said to be characterized by high fuel efficiency and speed, using conventional marine fuel and equipped with scrubbers.
EPS has signed charter contracts with Rio Tinto and BHP Billiton for three new vessels which are scheduled to be delivered next year.
