On December 12, the opening ceremony of Haitong Taicang Automobile Terminal was held in Taicang Port Area of Suzhou Port, the largest automobile ro-ro terminal on the Yangtze River mainline was officially put into operation, and SAIC export logistics base was opened simultaneously.
With a total shoreline length of 708 meters, Haitong Taicang Automobile Terminal can berth two 70,000-ton foreign trade ro-ro vessels and one 3,000-ton domestic trade ro-ro vessel at the same time, with a land area of 860,000 square meters, 32,000 parking spaces, and a designed annual throughput of 1.3 million automobiles.
As a comprehensive public automobile ro-ro terminal integrating “production service, consumption service and transit service” jointly established by Shanghai Port Group, SAIC Group and Jiangsu Port Group, Haitong Taicang Automobile Terminal will take advantage of the intersection of river, sea and river, and the advantages of multimodal transportation of road, railway and water, and will constitute the Yangtze River Delta commodity vehicle transportation system with Shanghai Haitong International Automobile Terminal.
It will further optimize the industrial layout of automobile logistics in the Yangtze River Delta, effectively integrate the Yangtze River Delta automobile supply chain, industrial chain and innovation chain, promote the synergistic development of China’s domestic automobile brands, and enhance the competitiveness of the international market.
In recent years, Suzhou Port has fully leveraged its location advantages, accelerated the construction of a port-type national logistics hub, seized the development opportunities of emerging industries such as new energy vehicles and large-capacity energy storage cabinets, and assisted the development of enterprises in the hinterland of the Yangtze River Delta and along the Yangtze River.
While doing a good service of traditional automobile ro-ro vessel transportation, Suzhou Port increases the strategic cooperation between port and navigation to provide domestic automobile enterprises with one-stop whole-vehicle logistics service of ocean transportation, storage, port collection, distribution and delivery.
From January to November this year, under the supervision of Taicang Customs, Taicang Port exported 437,300 vehicles, a year-on-year increase of 19.8%. At present, the export of automobiles from Taicang Port of Suzhou Port has covered 116 countries and regions in five continents.
