According to Tradewinds, China State Shipbuilding Corporation’s Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Beihai Shipbuilding”) is set to receive an order for four 16,300 DWT Suezmax tankers. A letter of intent has already been signed, and once the contract is finalized, Beihai Shipbuilding will enter the Suezmax tanker construction field for the first time.

It is reported that Dynacom Tankers Management, the tanker company under Greek king George Procopiou, is finalizing a shipbuilding contract with Beihai Shipbuilding for four 163,000 dwt conventionally-powered crude oil tankers.

Once confirmed, the total number of Suezmax tanker orders under the owner’s portfolio will rise to 18, increasing total spending to about $1.5 billion.

A month ago, Dynacom Tankers Management also reportedly ordered four conventionally fueled 75,000 dwt product tankers from Yangzijiang Shipbuilding, with delivery expected in 2028. In addition, in November 2023, Yangzijiang Shipbuilding announced new orders for 14 new vessels of three types with a total value of approximately $770 million. These include two 75,000 dwt tankers ordered by Dynacom Tankers Management at a price of approximately US$53 million each.

On November 1, Samsung Heavy Industries signed a contract with Dynacom for the construction of four 158,000 DWT Suezmax tankers, which are expected to be delivered by December 2027, the company said.

In the same month, Samsung Heavy Industries subcontracted the order to PaxOcean engineering Zhoushan, making it another shipyard to enter the field of large tanker construction. Samsung Heavy Industries will be responsible for the design of the new vessels, bonding, and procurement of equipment and materials, while PaxOcean engineering Zhoushan will be responsible for the construction work.

George procopiou, as one of the most prominent private shipowners in Greece, owns Sea Traders, Dynacom Tankers Management and Dynagas, which operate bulk carriers, tankers and LNG carriers, with a fleet of more than 170 vessels and a total capacity of 11,630,000 dwt. With a total fleet of more than 170 vessels and a total capacity of 11.63 million DWT, the company provides dry bulk cargo transportation, crude oil transportation and specialized shipping services, and has an extensive and well-established track record in the global maritime logistics industry.
