Recently, LD compressor (low-duty screw compressor) and HD compressor (high-duty centrifugal compressor), which are the “heart” equipments of the liquid cargo system of LNG carriers developed by Shanghai Marine Diesel Engine Research institute (SMDERI), have successfully passed the test reviews.
On the day of acceptance, more than 20 experts from Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding, Dalian Shipbuilding Industry co.,ltd.(DSIC), Jiangnan Shipyard, CSSC (Hong Kong) Shipping Company, China Merchants Gas Transportation, Xi’an Jiaotong University and other organizations visited the site to inspect the construction and testing of LNG marine compression equipment and the test situation.
The expert group listened to the project team’s report on the technical parameters, design features, test process and analysis of LD compressors and HD compressors, and witnessed the key processes such as low-temperature operation test and performance test of the host on site.
The attending experts unanimously agreed that the project has achieved several innovative results in the overall vibration control, low-temperature test technology and etc. for BOG compressors used in large LNG transport carriers. The developed LD and HD compressors operated smoothly, with indicators such as gas flow, temperature, pressure, efficiency, regulation capability, and dimensions all meeting the task assessment requirements. The experts unanimously agreed that the two types of BOG compressors passed the test acceptance.
The LD compressor uses a dry, oil-free screw compressor host, with a designed service life of over 20 years. It is equipped with a non-contact dry gas seal, ensuring 100% zero leakage and long-term maintenance-free operation. The HD compressor uses an integrated gear centrifugal compressor host, with an efficiency of over 86.5% under rated conditions, a minimum suction temperature below -140°C, and a maximum suction flow rate of up to 40,000 Nm³/h.
At present, SMDERI’s independently developed LD and HD compressors have obtained product certificates from mainstream classification societies such as CCS, LR, and BV, and are capable of supplying BOG compressors for various types of gas carriers.
In the future, SMDERI will continue to focus on ship compressor equipment, expand its global service network, provide customers with high-efficiency, low-cost, long-life, and easy-maintenance comprehensive solutions for gas processing and energy systems, and contribute to the green and low-carbon development of the shipping industry.
