On December 6, Guangzhou Yuanhai Automobile Shipping, as a representative of shipping companies, signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on marine LNG fuel refueling with CNOOC Fujian New Energy.
According to the agreement, the two sides will cooperate to promote the normalization of marine LNG bunkering in Xiamen Port, to reduce fuel costs for port and shipping companies, to promote the low-carbon upgrade of energy supply to set an example, and to jointly help Xiamen Bay shipping green and low-carbon transformation.
It is reported that with the advent of the international carbon constraint era, the green and low-carbon transformation of the automobile transport fleet is imperative.
In recent years, Guangzhou Yuanhai Automobile Shipping has focused on building a green and low-carbon automobile transport fleet. On the basis of the existing capacity, it has placed orders for 24 7,000-8,600 CEU LNG dual-fuel ro-ro ships. The new ships not only meet the strict emission standards of the International Maritime Organization, but also will significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions during operation, achieving a carbon reduction rate of more than 24%.
Since July this year, the company has successively connected and put into operation five new ships. It is expected that 19 new ships will be delivered in batches by 2026. By then, a fleet of 30 professional car carriers will be formed, with an annual transportation capacity of 700,000 vehicles, of which clean energy ships will account for as much as 80%.
At the same time, Guangzhou Yuanhai Automobile Shipping will continue to increase investment, study the application of other green energy and technologies, strive to reduce carbon emissions from the fleet, and reduce the carbon footprint of vehicles throughout their life cycle, so as to contribute to promoting the green and low-carbon transformation of shipping and helping achieve the dual carbon goals of the transportation industry.
