Deepwater pipe-laying crane vessel “Haiyang Shiyou 201” to travel to the Middle East after retrofitting

According to the news of Guangzhou WENCHONG SHIPYARD Co., Ltd. (GWS), a subsidiary of Guangzhou Shipbuilding International (GSI) under China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), the deepwater pipe-laying crane vessel “Haiyang Shiyou 201” has begun a two-month adaptive repair and renovation at GWS, and will be put into operation in the Middle East region in the future. This is another achievement of GWS in response to the “One Belt, One Road” initiative.

It is understood that in order to cope with the harsh working environment in the Middle East waters and the strict access inspection of the Middle East owners, “Haiyang Shiyou 201” will be upgraded in various aspects and systems, including the adaptation of the cooling system, the upgrading of the air conditioning in the living area, the replacement of helicopter platforms, the upgrading of the living sewage system and the upgrading of the rooms in the living area, etc.

To date, the project has almost completed the production design and prefabrication, and various repair and conversion projects have been started.

“Haiyang Shiyou 201” was built by Rongsheng Heavy Industries and named in May 2011. With a length of 204.65 meters, a beam of 39.2 meters and a crew of 380, it is the world’s first deepwater pipe-laying crane vessel with 3,000-meter deepwater pipe-laying capacity, 4,000-ton heavy lifting capacity and DP-3 power positioning capacity.
