On December 4, Yangzi Xinfu Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group, successfully untied and delivered the second LNG dual-fuel 16,000TEU container ship, “MSC VERONA,” to the shipowner, Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC).
It is reported that this type of ship is another large container ship built by Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group after the LNG dual-fuel 7000TEU container ship. It is equipped with 9Ni steel B type LNG fuel tanks with a capacity of over 13,000 cubic meters.
There are 12 ships in this series, with a total length of about 366 meters, a beam of 51 meters, a depth of 30.2 meters, a designed draft of 14.5 meters, and a structural draft of 17 meters.
This ship is equipped with energy-saving devices such as shaft generators, air lubrication, rudder balls and twisted wings. The dual-fuel main engine adopts the ECOEGR optimization method, which meets the Tier III emission standards while effectively reducing fuel consumption.
The construction of the ship began in mid-September 2023, and it entered the dock for assembly in mid-March 2024. The vessel was launched in mid-August and successfully completed its sea trials on November 20, with all test results meeting the design standards. The delivery documents for “MSC VERONA” were signed on December 2, further solidifying and strengthening Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group’s market position in the construction of large container ships.
Amid the accelerating digital, intelligent, and green transformation of the global shipping industry, the LNG dual-fuel 16,000 TEU container ship meets the current demand for green shipping and efficient transportation in global trade. 16,000TEU container ships will help shipowners gain a competitive edge in operational efficiency and market expansion.
