MARIC signs 88,000 cbm VLGC design contract with COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry (Qidong)

On November 29, Marine Design and Research Institute of China (MARIC) and COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry (Qidong) signed a design contract for an 88,000 cbm VLGC (very large gas carriers) in Shanghai.

The 88,000 cbm VLGC is the latest generation of ultra-large liquefied petroleum gas carriers developed by the MARIC. It is currently the largest VLGC that can pass through the old Panama locks.

The vessel has a total length of 230 meters and a beam of 32.25 meters. It adopts Type A independent liquid cargo tanks, and the tank capacity utilization rate is further improved through ship type optimization.

The vessel features a newly designed vertical bow line and is equipped with energy-saving ducts and a rudder bulb, further enhancing speed performance. It is equipped with an LPG dual-fuel main engine and shaft generator, which can meet the strictest emission requirements while maintaining optimal economic performance.

The vessel is equipped with an intelligent system, offering a high level of automation throughout the vessel. In addition to transporting LPG, it is also compatible with transporting liquid ammonia to meet future market demands for ammonia transportation.
