DryDel orders two 182,000 DWT bulk carriers to enter the Capesize market

Greek bulk carrier Drydel Shipping (formerly Meadway Shipping and Trading), led by Costas Dellaportas, has entered the Capesize market with a newbuilding deal.

Drydel has signed a contract with Japan’s Namura Shipbuilding for two 182,000 DWT scrubber-equipped bulk carriers, due for delivery in 2028.

No financial details were released, but DryDel said the project is a joint venture with its Japanese partners and the two Capesize vessels will be commercially and technically managed by the company.

The Athens-based company had previously ordered four Handysize bulk carriers at Namura. With the latest order, DryDel’s total order book for vessel deliveries over the next four years reaches 10.

DryDel ordered its first Ultramax newbuilding at Shin Kurushima Dockyard in June this year, due for delivery in 2026. In July, DryDel placed an order for a 66,000 DWT Ultramax bulk carrier from Tsuneishi Shipbuilding.

It is understood that Drydel Shipping was officially renamed on February 19, 2024 to distinguish it from Meadway Bulkers, which was founded in 2021 by Costas Dellaportas’ family member George Dellaportas.
