Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Announces $2.63 Billion in New Ship Orders, Exceeding $14.27 billion in Orders This Year

On December 2, China’s largest private shipbuilder Yangzijiang Shipbuilding announced that since November 7, the company has received orders for 21 new ships with a total value of $2.63 billion. The orders include six LNG dual-fuel 17,000 TEU container ships, six methanol dual-fuel 13,000 TEU container ships, four 39,000 DWT MR tankers, two 4,300 TEU container ships, and three 45,000 DWT bulk carriers. These new ships are scheduled for delivery between 2027 and 2029.

Yangzijiang Shipbuilding did not disclose the owners of these orders, but it is understood that the order for six 17,000 TEU dual-fuel container ships come from Denmark’s Maersk. Previously, on December 2, Maersk announced that it had signed orders for a total of 20 LNG dual-fuel container ships with Chinese and Korean shipyards. This includes two 9,000 TEU and six 17,000 TEU ships from Yangzijiang Shipbuilding, as well as six 15,000 TEU ships each from New Times Shipbuilding and South Korea’s Hanwha Ocean.

Additionally, the orders for six methanol dual-fuel container ships come from Ocean Network Express (ONE) of Japan. Earlier this year, ONE had already placed orders for eleven 13,000 TEU methanol dual-fuel container ships each with Yangzijiang Shipbuilding and Jiangnan Shipyard. This marks the first time ONE has ordered methanol dual-fuel ships, and it is also ONE’s first new ship order as a shipowner from Chinese shipyards.

The order for two 4,300 TEU container ships comes from Greek shipowner Euroseas. Last month, Euroseas disclosed this order in their third-quarter financial report. These modern, energy-efficient container ships will be built by Yangzijiang Xinfu Shipbuilding and are expected to be delivered in the fourth quarter of 2027. They will be named “ELENA” and “NIKITAS G.” Each new ship is estimated to cost about $60 million, with the total value of the two ships being approximately $120 million.

In addition to container ships, Yangzijiang Shipbuilding has received orders for three 45,000 DWT bulk carriers from Bulgarian shipowner Navibulgar which expected to be delivered in 2027. Additionally, the company has ordered three 32,000 DWT bulk carriers from Yangzijiang Shipbuilding, which are scheduled for delivery in 2026.

Yangzijiang Shipbuilding revealed in its announcement that the private giant has signed 119 shipbuilding orders with a total value of $14.27 billion (RMB 103.9 billion) so far this year, far exceeding its annual order-taking target of $4.5 billion and creating a record high.
