Recently, on the first day of the 11th 11th Edition of the International Maritime Expo-China, the “The Creation I” hydrogen fuel cell-powered sightseeing cruise ship, jointly developed and designed by CSSC Guangdong Shipbuilding International Marine Science & Technology Research Institute Co., Ltd. (referred to as “GSI Marine Science Institute”) and the CSSC 712 R&D Institute, was unveiled. This vessel received an AiP (Approval in Principle) certificate from the China Classification Society (CCS).
“The Creation I” is the first Inland sightseeing passenger ship powered by hydrogen fuel cells to receive Approval in Principle (AiP) for its design from the China Classification Society (CCS). It has also been awarded CCS’s highest comfort ratings for vibration and noise, as well as the highest-grade green environmental notation.
“The Creation I” has a maximum speed of 18.5 km/h and a cruising range of over 120 km at cruising speed. It is an all-welded steel catamaran, powered primarily by hydrogen fuel cells with a hybrid lithium battery dual power system. This ship features zero pollution, zero emissions, low energy consumption, low noise, high comfort, and high safety.
The ship features a two-story superstructure, with an open sightseeing deck on top. Its exterior combines simplicity with a sense of technological sophistication, highlighted by the use of multi-layered inclined geometric designs and LED ambient lighting. This design reflects a blend of technological innovation, vitality, and harmony with the environment.
“The Creation I” is powered by electrical energy generated through an electrochemical reaction in fuel cells using hydrogen, with water as its byproduct. It is understood that hydrogen energy, as a clean energy source, has significant development potential and advantages for maritime applications. Through rational design, selection, and layout planning, it can overcome existing challenges in specific ship types and promote the application of hydrogen fuel cell systems in ships, providing new solutions for achieving green shipping and sustainable development.
