Mawei Shipbuilding kicks off the build of its first 9,000 DWT asphalt carrier

On November 30th, Mawei Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of Fujian Shipbuilding Industry Group Corporation (Fujian Shipbuilding), successfully started the first 9000DWT asphalt carrier (Hull No.: MW518-1).

Classed by CCS, the vessel has an overall length of 119.8 meters, a beam of 21.2 meters, a depth of 11.2 meters and a design draft of 7.1 meters. Additionally, the vessel is equipped with pre-swirl ducts to improve propulsion efficiency and thruster tunnels to reduce resistance.

In recent years, Fujian Shipbuilding has actively laid out its position in the new energy ship track, deeply cultivated the field of high value-added ship types, and continued to make efforts in ship types such as car carriers, asphalt carriers, and bulk carriers. Relying on Mawei Shipbuilding’s rich experience in asphalt carrier construction, it actively develops new asphalt ship types.

Fujian Shipbuilding will take the commencement of construction of 9000DWT asphalt carrier as an opportunity to deepen the business cooperation with COSCO SHIPPING Specialized Carriers, to jointly create market benchmark products, and to realize resource sharing and mutual benefit.
