China’s first large-scale high load compressor for LNG carrier receives type approval from two classification societies

Recently, the NBOG centrifugal compressor independently developed by Shanghai Marine Diesel Engine Research institute (SMDERI) successfully passed the type approval acceptance of China Classification Society (CCS) and Lloyd’s Register of Shipping (LRCS), and obtained the type approval certificates issued by the two classification societies.

The NBOG centrifugal compressor for LNG carrier is mainly used to transfer the LNG BOG(boil-off gas)generated in the cargo hold during loading/unloading operations to the shore station to maintain the cargo hold pressure within the safe range. In addition, the high load compressor can be used to circulate the BOG in the cargo hold for heating and delivery during warming operations.

SMDERI has been working in the field of energy equipment for more than 40 years. At present, SMDERI has successfully developed a series of cryogenic gas compressors for high load (HD) compressors, low load (LD) compressors, and re-liquefaction expansion compressors for the high-end compressor equipment in the LNG field.

Moreover, the series of compressors have been certified by major classification societies and have the ability to be supplied to real ships, which can provide suitable energy equipment solutions for global natural gas production, storage and transportation, and application facilities.
