Sirius Shipping returns to Chinese shipyard to order four hybrid tankers

As part of its fleet renewal, Swedish shipping company Sirius Shipping has returned to a Chinese shipyard with an order for four hybrid tankers.

On November 29, Swedish tanker owner Sirius Shipping announced on its official website that it has placed an order of Four 7999 dwt Oil/Chemical tankers at China Merchants Jinling Shipyard, Dingheng. The vessels will be equipped with highly efficient propulsion and will feature the latest technology to comply with future regulations.

These new vessels are a new update from the success from Saturnus and Mercurius, with lower fuel consumption and low emission technologies. With Hybrid Battery of 420 kWh, for peak shaving, both for Main engine and Aux engines. A Shore Power system of 1000 kW will be installed which enables the vessels to perform Zero emission loading and discharging in port.

These new vessels, designed by Sirius in collaboration with FKAB, will provide the highest levels of sustainability, efficiency and safety. The vessels are also designed for excellent working conditions and comfortable living quarters for our Crew – since this is The Sirius Way.

In 2023, Sirius Shipping placed an order for 2+2 15,000 dwt methanol dual-fuel tankers at this Chinese shipyard, with the first 2 to be delivered in 2026, when they will become Sirius Shipping’s largest vessels. Together with this order, Sirius Shipping’s contracted tankers at this shipyard reach 8 vessels.

Sirius Shipping, a long-time customer of China Merchants Jinling Shipyard, Dingheng, was founded in 1994 and currently owns 10 tankers ranging from 4,500 dwt to 11,250 dwt with an average age of 15 years.
