Sallaum Lines, the Swiss owner of car carriers, has announced another order for six LNG dual-fuel car and truck carriers (PCTC) to further penetrate the Chinese market.
The owner revealed that two of the new vessels will be built by Fujian Mawei Shipbuilding and the remaining four will be built by China Merchants Jinling Shipyard (Nanjing) (“CMJL (Nanjing)”).
Mawei Shipbuilding’s 2 PCTCs with a specification of 7,500 CEUs are designed by Shanghai Ship Research and Design Institute (SDARI).
The PCTC has an overall length of 199.9 meters, a beam of 38 meters and a maximum draft of 10 meters. The vessel’s propulsion system is designed as single engine and single propeller, with single bow side thrust, electric RORO system and 13 vehicle decks.
CMJL (Nanjing)’s four PCTCs have a specification of 7400 CEU and are designed by Deltamarin. They have an overall length of 199.9 meters, a beam of 37.70 meters and a draft of 10.20 meters. They are equipped with 13 vehicle decks and meet the requirements of Tier III emission standards.
The first PCTC of this order is expected to be delivered in December 2025, with the remaining five PCTCs scheduled for delivery by the end of 2026. The order price has not been disclosed. For reference, last year, Sallaum signed a contract with CMJL (Nanjing) for similar vessels at approximately $90 million each. Currently, the market price for a 7,000 CEU PCTC has risen to $97 million.
Sallaum had already placed orders for the same type of PCTCs at these two shipyards a year earlier. in November 2022, Sallaum signed an order for two 7,500 CEU PCTCs with Mawei Shipbuilding, with the first vessel commencing in March this year, and in June 2023, Sallaum signed a contract for 4+2 7,400 CEU PCTCs with CMJL (Nanjing), with deliveries scheduled to commence in March 2026, with an estimated cost of $10 million for a single vessel. The cost of a single vessel is estimated at $90 million.
In April this year, Wärtsilä announced that it had won a contract from Sallaum Lines to provide three 20DF dual-fuel auxiliary generator sets, transverse thrusters and main engine control systems for six PCTCs, and shaft generator systems for four of them.
Founded in 2011, Sallaum Lines is currently the world’s tenth largest automobile transportation company.
