COSCO Shipping Development Receives First Domestic Greenhouse Gas Reduction Certificate

Recently, the Shipping Leasing Division of COSCO Shipping Development, together with China Quality Certification Center (CQC), issued the first domestic greenhouse gas emission reduction certificate for domestic trade shipping industry.

CQC was originally a certification body under the State Administration for Market Regulation. It completed the transformation from a public institution in March this year and is now affiliated to China Certification & Inspection Group.

As a “national” quality service agency, CQC has been deeply involved in the “dual carbon” field for a long time, accumulated rich experience, and has industry-leading service capabilities, providing technical support for the government and providing all-round services for enterprises’ low-carbon transformation.

In order to better fulfill the responsibility of ecological and environmental protection, the Shipping Leasing Division joined hands with CQC in July this year to officially launch the green transportation certification project. Based on the greenhouse gas emission reduction accounting brought about by the 700TEU electric container ship replacing the fuel ship to transport goods, the project studies the carbon emission reduction generated in the cargo transportation link. By issuing greenhouse gas emission reduction certificates for the electric container ship transportation link to cargo owners, it solves the quantitative demand for carbon emission reduction in the supply chain link and helps China’s cargo exports.

The Shipping Leasing Division will continue to deepen the cooperation with CQC under the guidance of the higher unit, and carry out the up-linking of greenhouse gas emission reduction certificates in cooperation with the platform of COSCO Shipping Container Lines’ Global Shipping Business Network (GSBN), so as to complete the green authentication certificates of the export feeder transportation link, improve the green value chain, and build up a more transparent, efficient, and sustainable green transportation service system.
