CCS greenlights COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry (Zhoushan)’s 64000DWT Methanol Dual-Fuel Bulk Carrier” design

On November 18, COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry (Zhoushan)’s “64000DWT Methanol Dual-Fuel Bulk Carrier” design project received an Approval in Principle (AiP) certificate from the China Classification Society (CCS).

It is worth mentioning that the 64,000DWT bulk carrier has just won the first domestic AiP issued by CCS based on the safety of the real ship network, and the re-recognition of the new design project fully demonstrates the company’s strong innovative design capabilities.

Methanol, known for its clean and efficient combustion characteristics, significantly reduces the emissions of carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, and various particulates during combustion. This plays a positive role in the global shipping industry’s efforts to reduce carbon emissions and steadily progress towards carbon neutrality. It also highlights the foresight and broad market prospects of the methanol dual-fuel design project in the field of clean energy applications.

In recent years, COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry (Zhoushan) has precisely focused on market demand and significantly strengthened its research and development efforts in the field of clean energy ships.

The company has achieved notable success in the design and development of clean energy ships, with several projects such as LNG dual-fuel tankers, LPG dual-fuel shuttle tankers, methanol dual-fuel shuttle tankers, and ammonia dual-fuel shuttle tankers receiving AiP certificates from classification societies like LR, DNV, and CCS.
