Beihai Shipbuilding kicked off the construction of a 319,000 DWT VLCC

On November 25, China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding Co. kicked off the construction of another 319,000 DWT Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC) for the Belgian company CMB.

It is reported that the 319,000 DWT VLCC project is another important achievement of the deepening strategic cooperation between Beihai Shipbuilding and CMB, demonstrating Beihai Shipbuilding’s strong strength in the field of green and low-carbon vessel design.

With an overall length of 339.50 meters and a beam of 60 meters, all technical indexes of the vessel have reached or are close to the international advanced level and meet the stringent requirements of the third phase of the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI). In the future, it can be equipped with two 6,000 cubic meters ammonia fuel tanks, which lays a solid foundation for realizing the vessel’s “zero carbon” operation.

The commencement of construction of this VLCC marks that Beihai Shipbuilding has once again taken solid steps in the field of oil tanker construction, achieving a new breakthrough in serialized and large-scale development.

Beihai Shipbuilding will continue to uphold the development concepts of innovation, green and sustainability, and is committed to building more high-quality and high-performance vessels to contribute to the green development of the international shipping industry.
