On November 23, COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry (Yangzhou) successfully named the first 211,000 DWT bulk carrier “XH ALOT” (hull number N1157) built for Zhejiang Xiehai Group.
This project marks the first collaboration between the COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry Design Institute and MARIC using a joint design approach. Both parties aimed to design a Newcastle bulk carrier focusing on “energy-saving, economic, efficient, and environmentally friendly” features. Through hull form and propeller optimization, the installation of efficient energy-saving devices, and shaft generators, the vessel’s fuel consumption is reduced to as low as 43 tons per day. The ship achieves Phase 3 EEDI index and a CII rating of A.
Additionally, through engine room KEYPLAN planning, 3D model reviews, and other techniques, COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry (Yangzhou) successfully reduced the installation height of the desulfurization tower. The company also optimized with large cargo hold openings, achieving optimal comprehensive arrangement. Various design innovations have effectively reduced the operation and maintenance costs, significantly enhancing the market competitiveness of this ship type.
Next, COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry (Yangzhou) will continue to advance the integration of the company’s technical headquarters with the COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry Design Institute, continuously enhance independent design capabilities, and steadily promote the design and construction of new energy ships, such as methanol dual-fuel ships. This will further strengthen the company’s market competitiveness and brand influence in the new energy field.
