According to TradeWinds, British shipowner Zodiac Maritime has placed an order for two Aframax product tankers from New Times Shipbuilding to expand its tanker fleet.
The new buildings, with a deadweight of 115,000 tons and an LNG dual-fuel main engine, will be delivered in 2027. The cost of the new vessel was not announced, but the price of each is estimated to be $75 million, based on market conditions.
Zodiac Maritime is a diversified shipowner that has been established for more than 70 years. Its 150-ship fleet covers container ships, bulk carriers, PCTCs, LPG carriers, chemical tankers, product tankers and crude oil tankers with a total deadweight of more than 20 million tons.
Earlier this month, New Times Shipbuilding was also awarded a large order for 12 9,200 TEU container vessels by Hapag-Lloyd at a cost of about $130 million each, with a total cost of $1.56 billion. The container vessels are equipped with LNG dual-fuel engines, capable of using biomethane as fuel, and are reserved for ammonia fuel capability. Deliveries are expected between 2027 and 2029.
