On November 20, China Merchants Jingling Shipyard (Weihai) Co. Ltd. (“CMJL (Weihai)”) held a steel cutting ceremony for the heightening and conversion project of the “Stena Foreteller” ro-ro vessel for Stena.
The main conversion project of the “Stena Foreteller” is to add a car deck and upgrade the bow thruster. At the same time, various public systems involved, such as the ballast water system, bilge water system, water curtain system, fire protection system, fire detection system, etc., will be upgraded or integrated. After the conversion, the vessel’s capacity will be further improved and its operating life will be extended.
It is reported that after the contract was signed, CMJL (Weihai) immediately launched the design bidding, negotiated technical agreements with foreign equipment manufacturers, signed contracts, and carried out steel estimation and price work. During the detailed design stage, video conferences were held with the shipowner every week to communicate and solve various problems that occurred in the design, ensuring the orderly progress of production design and the start of the project on schedule.
According to the plan, CMJL (Weihai) will complete the prefabrication and coating of the blocks before the Spring Festival. After the holiday, the blocks will be assembled to ensure that the vessel can be assembled immediately for dry docking.
