Headway signs ammonia fuel supply system order with YMP

On November 21, Chinese high-tech enterprise Headway Technology Group (Headway) and Yu Chai Marine Power (YMP) held a signing ceremony for the Ocean Guardian® Ammonia Fuel Supply System Project in Zhuhai City. The system will be used in the test platform of YMP’s marine ammonia fuel low-speed engine, and Headway will provide a one-stop “turnkey” project.

Headway will provide a complete set of ammonia fuel supply system solutions including ammonia fuel tanks, ammonia fuel supply modules, unloading compressors, ammonia fuel delivery pumps, ammonia escape absorption systems, combustible gas detection and double-walled pipes for YMP’s marine ammonia fuel low-speed engine test platform.

The test platform is compatible with ammonia-fueled main engines from the two major licensors, WinGD and MAN. Additionally, Headway, leveraging the “EPC model,” will be responsible for the entire project lifecycle, from engineering design, civil construction, and equipment manufacturing to installation and commissioning, providing a one-stop “turnkey” service.

The OceanGuardian® ammonia fuel supply system is a new generation of alternative fuel supply system independently developed by Hydeway after LNG, LPG and methanol. It adopts modular design and dual redundant diversity structure, and can be customized with ammonia fuel supply solutions according to customer ship types. The solution is designed to be flexible, efficient, safe, and reliable, supporting one-click startup and self-checking for faults.

As of now, the Marine Guardian® ammonia fuel supply system has obtained the Approval in Principle (AIP) certificates from CCS, DNV, and RINA classification societies. It has also provided several key components for WinGD ammonia-fueled main engines for real ship applications.
