Belgian CMB named two 210,000 DWT ammonia-ready bulk carriers built in China

On November 20, China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding and China Shipbuilding Trading Co. Ltd (CSTC), acting as the joint seller, held a naming ceremony for two 210,000 DWT ammonia-ready bulk carriers, No. 34 and No. 47, built for Belgium’s CMB Company.

The two new vessels were named “MINERAL ESPANA” and “MINERAL PORTUGAL” respectively.

It is understood that this type of bulk carrier has an overall length of 299.95 meters, a width of 50 meters, a depth of 25.2 meters, and a deadweight tonnage of 210,799 tons, with a service speed of 14.69 knots.

The design of this series of vessels fully considers the installation space for ammonia fuel tanks, ammonia fuel bunkering, supply systems, and their pipelines. Based on preliminary evaluations and gas dispersion analysis, the arrangement of doors, windows, and ventilation masts in the living quarters has been determined to ensure safety for future ammonia fuel modifications. The vessel is equipped with an energy efficiency monitoring system and a shaft generator, making it more environmentally friendly and energy-efficient.

It is understood that on the same day, Beihai Shipbuilding held a keel laying ceremony for the same series of vessel No. 51 in the dock.
